Trail Experience

Pros:

  • "By far, the Pyramid Mountain trails are the most exhilarating to navigate through."
  • "Awesome park to go hiking, admire the scenery and the awesomeness of the nature."
  • "The nature is beautiful and holds serene silence/far removed from noise pollution (cars, planes, etc)."
  • "This place is pretty awesome and has many many trails that are fun to do and even feel completely different when done backwards or in different seasons."
  • "The area features unusual glacial erratics, dramatic rock outcrops, extensive wetlands, waterfalls, and several scenic overlooks – including views of the Manhattan skyline."
  • "The trails are well maintained. If you want to get out and take a hike without making a day of it, its perfect."
  • "The trails here are quite varied in terms of difficulty level with decent overlooks."

Cons:

  • "The Red trail was difficult to follow due to lots of downed trees from recent storms."
  • "The only problem...the view of the high tension wires kinda take away from the natural experience."
  • "The blue trail was quite disappointing, it's a strenuous hike between the rocks and ledges, but not very rewarding in terms of views."
  • "The only negative part was there were ticks present on my dog after the hike."
  • "Some parts of the trail were rocky but fairly easy."
  • "The 'waterfall' and stream area were pretty dried up but there was a little water and some frogs and minnows."
  • "On the Turkey Mountain side, some trails get eerily close to power lines."

Parking and Accessibility

Pros:

  • "Got there at around 9am so parking wasn't a problem and the trail wasn't so busy."
  • "Parking is plenty with temporary bathroom installations."
  • "Parking is good both in the lot and on the road, though I've never needed the latter."
  • "Parking was plenty but could be crowded on a busy day."
  • "It will be good if you can reach there by 9am, otherwise tough to get parking spots."
  • "Parking is limited but thus far I have not had issue with parking upon arrival."
  • "The parking is a bit small, but you can park on the side of the road in the designated areas."

Cons:

  • "But people who got there later just parked by the side of the road."
  • "Parking can quickly become full forcing drivers to park on the road."
  • "I wish they had a bigger parking lot."
  • "This is a popular hiking location, so the parking lot fills up quickly but there is overflow parking on the street."
  • "Only downside is limited parking provided and issues with parking along private property."
  • "This time the parking lot was filled up and we had a park several blocks away on the side street across the road."
  • "Few places trail marks are fading."
