Union Square Park Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "It's a nice little park to escape the hustle and bustle of the city in the midst of all the chaos."
  • "One of the most lively parks in NY with a huge Subway station beneath it."
  • "The park's layout is both aesthetically pleasing and functional."
  • "It's central location makes the park a hub for social events, outdoor bazaars, and all manner of eclectic creative expressions."
  • "Surrounded by Manhattan’s soulless asphalt and steel, this postage stamp park gives a much-needed reprieve to the rat race."
  • "This is definitely one of the more lively parks in the city and there is so much to do in the area."
  • "Union Square Park is a gem in the heart of New York City, and it takes on a special charm during the Fall season."

Cons:

  • "It can be chaotic and is often messy, but I have never felt unsafe."
  • "Minus, and seems a city problem, too many homeless and some areas very dirty(fountain)."
  • "Just be careful after nightfall, as transients and other unsavory lot descend upon its confines."
  • "But I don't like a lot of homeless people in this park who behave inappropriately."
  • "Only good when the market is around on the weekend. Other than that there is a foul smell homeless people, drug ies and people in a rush."
  • "The park itself can be a bit dirty with some crazies roaming around but that's Manhattan in a nutshell."
  • "Now it's dirty, filthy, numerous rats and over runned by junkies and the homeless."

Union Square Park Amenities

Pros:

  • "Weekend farmers market. Playground for children, Dog park, chess games, with a stage area."
  • "Known for its community events & rallies, festivals, farmers market, and holiday market."
  • "If you are looking for organic, fresh fruit and vegetable farmers market in union square, Manhattan NY is the best solution."

  • "This city Park consists of gardens, seating areas, dog runs, and a children's playground."
  • "Union Square Park offers lots of park benches and beautiful statues surrounded by lovely plantings."

Cons:

  • "No bathrooms! Go to Barnes and Nobles!"
  • "The playgroud was a disgust. We walked in and right back out."
  • "Also rat infested, and the rats come out before sundown and make sure you are not parking yourself in one spot or they will assume you're there as a sacrifice for them."
  • "The Green market is awesome but there are so many other non food weird vendors it can be hard to navigate."
  • "Great park, but this new rule of ‘closing the park’ at 6pm is a bit silly."
  • "Sadly the park was filled with rodents."
  • "There are bathrooms located on the north end of the park, although they are not the cleanest."

Union Square Park Accessibility

Pros:

  • "This park has connections to several Subway lines and is close to lots of NYC treasures."

Cons:

  • "Far from one of my favorite parks in the city, makes up for it with the green market and train accessibility."

  • "Dog park is small and not the happiest, mad respect to all the trees growing here though they can put up with some harsh conditions."
  • "But the real issue is you might not see it unless you're there at the right or wrong time, but there are a lot of fights there. Also there is a lot of drug use."
  • "Filled with homeless and homeless/crazy people that will yell hateful things to you and/or your child."
  • "Smells like pee everywhere."
  • "Would be okay if one didn't get a contact high walking into the park. Also the benches need an upgrade, most are pretty shabby."
