Food Quality

Pros:

  • "I don't think there's a better Omakase experience in the area, and for the price - in the City either."
  • "Very delicious and exquisite."
  • "Some new innovative dishes were added and fish was fresh and well prepared."
  • "The food itself was phenomenal."
  • "Very high quality fish and it was absolutely delicious."
  • "The sushi is the best I have ever had, I can’t stress enough how delicious it was and how incredible all of the flavor profiles were."
  • "Every single piece is uniquely delicious and suuuuuper fresh."

Cons:

  • "Save your money, save your time! I felt like I got robbed."
  • "The starting ones are great but the few pieces of fish sushis towards the end are small and average."
  • "Over sauced Sushi failed to taste as good Sushi... didn't have enough flavors of the fish which was killed by wrong combinations of sauce flavors."
  • "The rice was bad and the sushi was too small —like half of the normal size."
  • "This last visit was especially disappointing as the nigiris didn’t taste/look fresh."
  • "The rice for the nigiri was surprisingly very disappointing. It immediately fell apart when we picked it up."
  • "First few sashimi dishes were 'pre-prepared' which made the pieces bit dried up."

Service

Pros:

  • "The service was extremely impressive."
  • "Thank you Sushi Kai for making my dad's birthday so memorable and joyful."
  • "The staff are amazing. Very attentive and friendly!"
  • "The chefs are engaging and lovely to talk to."
  • "The service is amazing."
  • "The staff and chefs are friendly and extremely knowledgeable regarding the menu and what is being served."
  • "The staff were well trained and friendly."

Cons:

  • "They have a pretty strict cancellation policy ($75 charge) BUT it's impossible to ever get anyone on the phone to attempt to reschedule and their reservation system doesn't allow changes online."
  • "When we called, the manager was really rude and told us that it was Open Table’s website’s fault and not theirs for the wrong cancellation fee being written."
  • "We made reservation on their website successfully and drove from NYC to Fort Lee but they told me there was system error. The booking was actually full so they could not have me in the restaurant."
  • "I was so very excited to eat at this restaurant tomorrow evening with two other people. Unfortunately, I found out I got covid. I called the restaurant 24 hours prior… but since it wasn’t 48 hours prior, they charged me $300."
  • "We walked into an empty restaurant about 4 minutes before our scheduled seating time only to be rudely shooed back outside into a cold and rainy evening by the overzealous hostess."
  • "Her mannerism and interactions with guest were abrupt and very much not the typical demure accommodative competence one sees in most high end sushi establishments."
  • "I even asked if we could pre pay for the day's meal so that their restaurant is not short of the day's sale. Instead, the man on the phone said we had 24 hours to call in advance, which does not make sense for us since I tested positive that morning."

Ambiance

Pros:

  • "The ambiance, service, and food was amazing."
  • "Definitely one of my go to spots for an authentic omakase experience in the NYC area."
  • "I really love the clean, simple aesthetics of this place."
  • "The ambiance is so trendy and fun."
  • "The restaurant is very beautiful, the ambience was very soothing."
  • "The ambiance was welcoming and calming (loved the simple, clean aesthetic)."
  • "The ambiance is classy, minimalistic, and makes you feel like you are at a high end spot in NYC."

Cons:

  • "First, when walking in to the restaurant, I do not like the atmosphere and vibe."
  • "But, it was made worse by the rap music they were playing."
  • "While the space is clean and the decor modern, the lighting is overly bright to the point of being harsh and contributes to an overall lack character and intimacy."
  • "The space was small and packed. If it was more spacious and not pandemic times, I would've considered dining in since the omakase sounds amazing."

  • "At $150+, I do appreciate the range of courses that are offered."

  • "Everything was so fresh and savory, and well worth the price tag."
  • "For true foodies and real sushi lovers, this spot is a must try! 10/10 will be back again as this is now one or my go-to’s"

  • "All it and all it was good not great, and definitely not worth 155$ per person."
  • "Wasn't the best Omakase, but not the worst either. Probably not worth the price."
