Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Sea Urchin carbonara, parm grits, rolled crispy beets delicately stuffed with goat cheese, a thick parm crisp with caviar, poached lobster with chili sauce- all exceptional."
  • "The food was precise."
  • "Everything here is delicious but a bit on the salty side, still DELICIOUS."
  • "The octopus appetizer: it's so rich and tender."
  • "The hake, grilled primarily on one side and cooked to perfection, conserved all its moistness and flavor."
  • "The classic sea urchin pasta, a staple in southern coastal Italian towns, sings of the sea."
  • "The seafood dishes are a standout -- Tuna tartare, lobster, black sea bass."

Cons:

  • "Foods are just ok."
  • "One dish after the next, under delivered."
  • "The main dish was something duck but I found it not tasty but rather heavy."
  • "Tuna Tartar was bland, even after adding soy sauce to the dish."
  • "The food was average. Legitimately every dish is average."
  • "The aspargus apetizer was nothing special nor was the foie gras which simply tasted like butter with no complexity."
  • "Black cod was poor. Tempura prawns below average and tuna sashimi was simply ok at best."

Service

Pros:

  • "Food and service have always been top notch."
  • "Service is excellent, as are many of the dishes."
  • "The service was impeccable and friendly and went out of their way to accommodate the one gluten free allergy."
  • "The staff and service were excellent, catering to our every need."
  • "Amiable, well-trained servers brought rave 'reviews' from the entire table."
  • "Every single staff member here was friendly and professional."
  • "The staff is knowledgeable, kind and effective."

Cons:

  • "SERVICE IS SLOW!!! It took 3 hours for 3 course meal."
  • "The service ruined it all…"
  • "The service ia even crappier. Crappy explanation of menus. Forgetting to bring drinks and no apologies."
  • "Don’t expect a solid service if they would charge you 20% tip any way no matter what class of service they offered."
  • "But as we progressed into the meal, we frequently had to ask for our cups of water and tea to be refilled."
  • "They served one dish before the previous one was finished… then they just run back immediately pretending like nothing happened."
  • "The only disappointment was the slightly slow service to start with."

Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "It’s a very quiet place so it’s different from the noisy Manhattan restaurant."
  • "The atmosphere is exquisite and unusual for the city: roomy, quiet, subdued elegant decor."
  • "Exquisite ambience with finely crafted dishes for an overall stellar experience."
  • "Beautiful outdoor space with space heaters above the table where you don’t even need your coat."
  • "Intimate and glamorous dining room, and a unique layout overall which contributes to the feeling of a luxurious experience."
  • "The dining room was pleasantly quiet with tables set widely apart and well-designed acoustics, allowing us to concentrate on the marvelous food and have good conversation too."
  • "The decor is dramatic and beautiful."

Cons:

  • "It's not a place that's popular for brunch apparently. There's no natural light in the restaurant."
  • "Atmosphere 4 not the best place to sit and have a conversation because of seating placement."
  • "It's a bit old fashioned looking, but somehow it feels inviting and comfortable."
  • "This was the most quietest dining experience I've ever had in my life."
  • "The energy was nervous, and anxious and the pressure to turn over tables was palpable."
  • "Reservation was made for the 'Patio', which apparently does NOT mean the covered area, but rather simply the exposed sidewalk. No heat lamps either, so it was frigid."
  • "Very fresh fish and nice atmosphere with omakase on one side and restaurant on the other one. Nothing special and quite expensive though."

Value

Pros:

  • "It’s upscale enough to impress but at pretty approachable at the same time."
  • "The prices are better and portions are slightly bigger."
  • "Perhaps the most underrated place in New York. The food was sublime."
  • "We sat there for around 2.5 hours enjoying the dinner and the decor. I think it's definitely worth it."
  • "You eat exceptionally well and you’re treated well. I’d recommend it for anyone who is looking for a gourmet meal on a modest budget."
  • "The $29 lunch pre fixe is good value."
  • "Not cheap, but worth the money for a very special night out."

Cons:

  • "I don't want that much food on valentine day... Nor do I want to spend 600 on a Wednesday (with wine/sake)."
  • "Extremely expensive place. Don't even think about going there without being able to spend few hundred dollars only for food."
  • "The sushi rolls in this place are very very high price you get 1 piece from a roll for 12$!!!"
  • "The prices are super expensive and the portion of the meals are so small very very tiny you pay a lot of money for literally nothing!"
  • "The food is not what it used to be and the dining experience is way overpriced."
  • "Their prices are SO extreme that it is difficult to enjoy your meal."
  • "How do you justify a bill of $112 (including 15% tip) for just 2 people that consisted of just one alcoholic beverage?"
